VI MØDES UNDER AMULETTERNE
Vi mødes under amuletterne (We’ll Meet Underneath the Amulets) is a public sculptural installation at Holluf Pile Library, which lies in extension of the primary school of the same name.
A large aluminum chain frames the large central space of the library. On it nine copper “charms” hang, depicting motifs taken from learning books and from the world of play and imagination.
The piece is made from the notion of a school as a place that should facilitate a proper balance between passing factual information on to its students, as well as provide a space for free creativity and dreaming.
The school has around 750 students, including some with speech/hearing difficulties and other learning challenges, as well as a number who have moved there from other countries and cultures.
Therefore, it is important that the art speaks to the thing all children, across languages and nationalities, have in common; curiosity, play and imagination.
The concept of charms has existed across cultures and religions throughout time. They have been used for various purposes - typically as amulets/talismans, to protect, bring good luck and to signal an identity of belonging. Hopefully this piece can do the same.
