A door is kept ajar, letting the buzzing of the street seep in and mix with life inside.
With the exhibition Ajar, artist Martha Hviid looks into the environment and activities that take place in and around the restaurant Baka d'Busk. Through the works she mirrors the daily life and rhythm of the place, and the flow between "inside" and "outside".
A gallery of vegetal characters hang, as an autumnal buffet of ceramic platters, whilst a series of paintings based on the passing street life are integrated into the restaurant's interior.
For the platters LA-based musicians Julia Holter and Nite Jewel (Ramona Gonzalez) have composed a soundtrack that, in conjunction with the visual works and the menu, imagines which flavours, smells, memories and emotions food (specifically vegetables) generate within us.
Martha Hviid is a visual artist, with an MFA from the Royal College of Art, London and the University of Texas, Austin. Hviid mostly works sculpturally and with installation, dealing with how we sense, feel, interpret and interact with the world around us – this from a perspective of our psychological, neurological, physiological and relational preconditions, and how we consciously and subconsciously communicate these to and with each other.
Hviid has most recently exhibited at Bricks Gallery (Copenhagen), Kunsthalle Gammelgaard (Herlev), Richas Digest (Cologne), OK Corral (Frederiksberg) and Galleri Specta (Copenhagen). Her works are included in private and public collections, including Brask Art Collection and San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's Library Archives (SFMOMA). In 2016, Hviid received the Bikuben Foundation's studio grant and in 2017 she was nominated for the Remmen Foundation's art prize. She currently resides in Copenhagen.
Baka d'Busk is a vegetable bistro located on Rantzausgade in the heart of Nørrebro. Since opening in 2019, they have made a name for themselves, not only due to their imaginative approach to vegetarian food but also their focus on giving the guest an all-round sensory experience - one of these elements being their changing exhibition programme showing young experimental art, compiled by the place's in-house curator Efrat Edelsten.

En dør står på klem, så en summen fra gaden sniger sig igennem, og blander sig med livet indenfor.
Med udstillingen Ajar tager kunstneren Martha Hviid afsæt i det miljø og de aktiviteter der foregår i og omkring restauranten Baka d'Busk. Herigennem spejler hun stedets hverdag og rytme, og vekselvirkningen mellem "inde" og "ude".
Et persongalleri af grøntsager hænger, som en efterårsbuffet af keramiske platter, mens malerier baseret på det passerende gadeliv integreres i restaurantens interiør. Til platterne har de L.A.-baserede musikere Julia Holter og Nite Jewel (Ramona Gonzalez) komponeret et soundtrack, der i samspil med de visuelle værker og stedets menu, fabulerer over hvilke smage, lugte, minder og følelser mad (og især grøntsager) kan frembringe.
Martha Hviid er billedkunstner, med en MFA fra Royal College of Art, London og University of Texas, Austin. Hviid arbejder som oftest installatorisk og skulpturelt, og beskæftiger sig med hvordan vi sanser, føler, tolker og interagerer med den verden der omgiver os – dette med udgangspunkt i vores psykologiske, neurologiske, fysiologiske og relationelle forudsætninger, og hvordan vi bevidst og ubevidst kommunikerer disse til og med hinanden.
Hviid har senest udstillet på Bricks Gallery (København), Kunsthallen Gammelgaard (Herlev), Richas Digest (Köln), OK Corral (Frederiksberg) og Galleri Specta (København). Hendes værker indgår i private og offentlige samlinger, bl.a. Brask Art Collection og San Francisco Museum of Modern Art's Library Archives (SFMOMA). Hviid modtog i 2016 Bikubenfondens atelierlegat og var i 2017 nomineret til Remmen fondens kunstpris. Hun er pt. bosat i København.
Baka d'Busk er en grøntsagsbistro liggende på Rantzausgade i hjertet af Nørrebro. Siden de åbnede i 2019 har de gjort sig bemærket, ikke blot på grund af deres fantasifulde tilgang til vegetarisk mad, men også deres fokus på at give gæsten en sanselig helhedsoplevelse. Dette blandt andet via deres skiftende udstillingsprogram med ung, eksperimenterende kunst, sammensat af stedets in-house kurator Efrat Edelsten.
